Mubarak Qazi Baloch

Mubarak was born on 24th of December,1956, in Pasni (a Tehsil in district Gwadar, Baluchistan, Pakistan). His father name was Khauda Amanullah. He got his early education from a local school and in 1976 he moved to Karachi for further studies and got admission in “Sindh Muslim College”. But due to lack of interest in studies,he soon returned back to Pasni and joined his family business.
After a few years, he again turned his way to Karachi and cleared Intermediates with private exams. In the mean time in Karachi, he attended many deewans (meetings/functions in which poets recite poetry) of famous Baloch poets and authors. Gradually he became interested in Balochi poetry. Qazi got his B.A. degree from “Urdu Arts College”, in 1983 and did his M.A. in International Relations (I.R.) in 1986 from “Baluchistan University Quetta”.
Then, Qazi returned back to his hometown and served Fish Harbor Pasni as a director.

Mubarak Qazi has given Balochi poetry a totally new shape. His poetry is in simple and easy language but having great thoughts behind. He has a unique style of poetry that even can be recognized just by hearing it. Qazi is a prolific poet but yet the quality of his poetry is always constant. He is the inspiration of the young poets.
Qazi is one of the most famous and important personalities of Baluchistan. He is known for his nationalism and political activities. He has also faced imprisonment for his such acts. He has always written against the rude nature of the government and asked for the rights of Baloch people. One of his such poem, that he has written against the CM of Baluchistan, Dr.Abdul Malik, is translated below:
Translated by Borhaan Arifee
Background of the poem:
“Now let us praise Dr. Malik. It is that period when Dr. Sahib becomes minister (Education) and a green flag is mounted on his car at the right side and his Balochi flag on the left. You know I and Dr. Malik Sahib were friends and this goes to his credit.”
Congratulations for being in the good graces
Congratulations for becoming the chieftain
You have always been best at driveling
Congratulations for the empty babbling
With the police guards & green flag
Congratulations for the government gig
With the twin-horn turban & royal rosary
(meaning he knots ties with Mullahs and forms a coalition government)
Congratulations for this fraternity
To suck the blood of your brothers
Congratulations for making amity with monsters
You have always sold your nation out
Congratulations you bloody sellout
You were right that Baloch are traitors
Congratulations for being the righteous
Hail you for reaching the destination
Congratulations for making it long before me
Uncle Farmer misery & hardship is written on your fate
Oh my hamlet’s shepherd: Congratulations for the perpetual hunger & decease
The world knows that you are Mubarak Qazi
Congratulations for this vexatiousness
No wonder Mubarak Qazi Baloch is the most prominent Baluchi poet of this era.
